Kaunas District Municipality ranks especially high in the fields of transport, utilities, health and social care and taxes. A distinction is made for favourable conditions for competition in the field of public services, in which the private sector is active. In terms of taxes, there is a relatively low real estate tax rate, low average cost of business licenses, and low land tax rate.

  • Kaunas District Municipality is the first in Lithuania to have a coordinator in each eldership who is responsible for assisting those returning to the municipality.
  • To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Lithuanian state, Kaunas District Municipality donates a ‘Baby Set’ to every baby born this year (2018) in a family of Kaunas District residents. This is a set of essentials to help the baby’s parents in their first baby years.
  • Kaunas District has a Free Economic Zone (EEZ), which offers plots of land with fully installed infrastructure and has already attracted EUR 634 million of investments, 70% of which is foreign direct investment. Kaunas Free Economic Zone

Kaunas Free Economic Zone is an industrial development area occupying 534 ha, offering land plots with fully equipped infrastructure. Since the establishment of the first investor in 2005, LTL 634 million has been attracted to Kaunas FEZ. Of this amount, 70% is foreign direct investment. Currently, 32 Lithuanian and foreign companies are operating in the FEZ territory and almost 5,000 jobs have been created.

Activities of Kaunas FEZ: Industrial process automation, warehousing and logistics, pharmaceuticals manufacturing, insulating board manufacturing, automatic garage door manufacturing, wholesale food supplement manufacturing, single crystal sapphire growing and plate manufacturing, furniture manufacturing, fish processing.

Youth Organisations

There are about 15 youth organizations and about 40 organizations working with youth in Kaunas district. In all schools of the district, the interests of students are represented by student councils, where elections to the Lithuanian Student Parliament take place every two years. Young people also have the opportunity to realize themselves in the cultural centers in the district, where various youth art groups (dance, choir, theater, etc.) operate. Karmėlava Balys Buračas Gymnasium

Karmėlava Balys Buračas Gymnasium is part of the network of schools that have experience working with or are ready to accept children returning from abroad. Depending on the skills and knowledge of returnees, an adapted curriculum may be applied and additional assistance provided to children who are less proficient in the Lithuanian language.

Municipal Youth Affairs Council

Considers and proposes youth policy measures and goals to Kaunas District Municipal Council. The Youth Affairs Council consists of 6 representatives of youth organizations and 6 representatives of the Municipality.

University of the Third Age

In Kaunas district, seniors are provided with opportunities not only to live a healthy and active life, but also to learn throughout their lives. The University of the Third Age (TAU) was established in 2012, with 200 students, and its activities took place in five elderships (Domeikava, Garliava, Kačerginė, Lapiai, Zapyškis). Over the years, the number of students has grown, now reaching 650, activities take place in 12 elderships of Kaunas district: Babtai, Domeikava, Ežerėlis, Garliava, Lapiai, Kačerginė, Karmėlava, Neveroniai, Raudondvaris, Ringaudai, Vilkija and Zapyškis.

Health Promoting School

The Kaunas District Health Promoting Schools Network (SSM) is unique: it has been operating since 2002 and currently unites 42 pre-school, primary and general education institutions. The SSM network is an expression of cooperation and partnership between organizations and people with the aim of improving the process of teaching / learning a healthy lifestyle and strengthening health.

Subsidy for First Home in the Region

Young families in Kaunas District can apply for housing support. The following subsidies are offered to young families: 15% with no children; 20% with one child; 25% with two children; 30% for families with 3 or more children. A young family is one where both spouses or single father or mother are up to 35 years old.

Health: Kaunas district ambulance station

Urgent emergency medical care is provided free of charge to all persons in Kaunas district, regardless of whether they are covered by compulsory health insurance, regardless of gender, age, nationality, citizenship or place of registration. The posts of the ambulance station are evenly distributed throughout the territory of Kaunas district, so that it is possible for ambulance specialists to reach even the most remote areas of Kaunas district. Each position is guarded by a professional ambulance team, which is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment and high-quality constantly updated cars (car base - one of the best in Lithuania).

Vytautas the Great War Museum. Constantly updated expositions and exhibitions will give you an insight into Lithuanian and world warfare from ancient times, capturing the most important events in history.
M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art. The M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, established in 1921, is one of the oldest and largest art museums in Lithuania. It is the only place in the world where the creative heritage of the most famous Lithuanian artist, composer, literary and public figure M. K. Čiurlionis (1875–1911) has been accumulated.
Kaunas Castle. The castle at the confluence of the rivers Nemunas and Neris was built in the 14th century to defend from the Crusader attacks. It is not only the oldest stone castle in Lithuania, but also the only one with two rows of defensive walls. This Gothic defensive structure was surrounded by a settlement that grew into the present city.

Raudondvaris Manor Castle. The castle has distinct traces of the activities of the last rulers of the manor, the Tiškevičiai family. Today, this castle is equipped with halls for representation events, concerts, celebrations, marriages, and the northern part of the castle houses the Kaunas District Museum. 
Juniper Valley. Botanical reserve on the outskirts of Arlaviškės Village, on the steep slope of the Nemunas loop, is overgrown with junipers. It is an endogenous slope of Kaunas Lagoon overgrown with junipers. The Juniper Valley belongs to Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park. It is a national monument of national importance.
