Registering at the Employment Service
Employment Service Under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour (thereinafter - ES) is responsible for the provision of labour market services to job seekers and employers and the implementation of active labour market policy measures. Local ES offices offer services for job seekers considering their ability to compete in the labour market and job motivation. Here is the list of services that the ES provides for jobseekers:
- Information and counselling
- Employment intermediation
- Individual employment plans
- Subsidised employment
- Supporting the acquisition of work skills
- Support for mobility
- Integration of the disabled
- Support of self-employment
- Voluntary practice
Examples of services provided under varying circumstances:
If a person has a profession, occupation, and (or) work experience in demand, a break between employments is no greater than 2 years or is a graduate:
- local ES offices provide job search services, together with the unemployed agree on an employment activity plan oriented towards as immediate employment as possible, and provide training on how to use the ES's e. services.
If a person does not have any profession or the acquired one is not currently in demand, does not have job experience, has not been employed for more than two years, but intends to acquire a profession in demand and to gain job skills:
- ES offices provide counselling and help to develop job search skills, together with the unemployed agreeing on an employment activity plan oriented towards gaining or renewing a profession or working skills.
If a person has a profession, occupation, and (or) work experience in demand, a break between employments no greater than 2 years or is a graduate, but unwilling to accept job offers and start working according to his/her qualification, is not aware of the job search methods or has other problems that hinder job search:
- local ES offices organize motivational seminars, provide information and counselling services, and together with the unemployed agree on an employment activity plan oriented towards the temporary employment measures and employment.
If a person does not have any profession or the acquired one is not currently in demand, has no job experience, has not been employed for more than two years, does not know what kind of job would like to do and what activities to engage in:
- local ES offices organize motivational seminars, provide individual counselling, and together with the unemployed agree on an individual employment activity plan oriented towards stimulating motivation and gaining or renewing a profession or working skills.
Employment service also offers one of Lithuania's largest databases of job vacancies and jobseekers, which is updated constantly. Their website provides a single online job search and supply system. Statistical information is also available (ex.: data about various parameters of the labour market, both national and territorial, professions that are on demand).
All of the listed services are free of charge. The institution has 10 regional offices which have their own branches in municipalities all over Lithuania.
