Laurynas Boguševičius

“Events in my personal life has led me to a decision to leave. I left just to see, how does the life look like while being abroad – different culture, working elsewhere. Original plan was to stay abroad for a year, but it was a little more than that…” – this is what Laurynas, who currently resides in Vilnius, tells us about his decision to go to Great Britain for work.

First impression of Scotland was a little frightening but Laurynas managed to settle down and the originally planned year abroad extended to whole eight years: “It was shocking because my first journey was to Scotland, somewhere in the mountains, in the middle of nowhere, it seemed. Suddenly, you realize that there is a new life in front of you. [But in time] you get accustomed to the new rhythm and thus, it becomes natural in some time.”

Even though it was difficult at first, Laurynas got used to the new life rhythm, got accustomed to the new environment, in time, even got a job he wanted, but he knew something was not right, there was something missing… “I had two target companies that I wanted to work at. The job search was very long and difficult… but then, suddenly, I got offers from both places at the same time. Really, I think it all went well for me, but, at some point, I gave up and just got fed up with everything.”

“During the last year of my stay in England, there were many thoughts in my head about going back.” Laurynas admits that coming back to Lithuania for holidays, left him thinking about the possibility of coming back permanently. In one of such holidays, Laurynas also managed to fall in love and thus, there were no more doubts – he decided to come back to live in Lithuania: “During my vacation in Lithuania, I went to a date with this girl that I instantly fell in love with and hence, just three days after the vacation, I realized that I want to come back and live in Lithuania.”

With a smile on his face, Laurynas remembers the moment when he came back to Lithuania knowing that this is not one of the short holiday trips anymore, this time it is a fascinating but also a little frightening new chapter in his life.

“Do I remember the day when I came back? Oh wow… (smiling), that I will never forget. The feeling when you step out of the plain knowing that this time you do not have a ticket back – it is strange, feels like the doors were shut behind. Feels like home but at the same time it is a bit scary.”
